Diversity, equity, and inclusion are challenges many industries face, even in the classroom at university. As a designer and educator, I have thought about how design could be more prominent in supporting DEI( Diversity, equity, and inclusion). Visual Communication design is not just a form of aesthetic power but also cultural influence. In the two design foundation courses I have been teaching at the University of Connecticut, I designed some projects for my students to creatively use typographic poster design and animation to speak out for what they believe in DEI with meaningful action. Designing for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), this mind will help them prepare to create a cohesive and inclusive experience accessible to users from various backgrounds, abilities, and statuses.
